Whistleblowing hotline

Written by Petra Vlachová

New systemic measures to reduce the risks of unethical and illegal behavior are to be adopted according to European Union Directive 2019/1937 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law. The main goal of the EU Directive secure and promote the importance of providing balanced and effective whistleblower protection. The whistleblowing hotline is used to communicate discreet information to ensure anonymity of whistleblowers as protection against punishment, discrimination or other retaliations. Those notifications should be objectively and independently investigated and corrective action undertaken.

The Czech Republic has to implement this Directive by 17 December 2021, while under the implementing draft law, it appears that it will be made compulsory to set up a whistleblowing hotline for employers with more than 25 employees, not 50 as per the European directive.
